The Black Shark 5 and its Pro variant were announced earlier this year. It looks like they will be officially available in the local market soon. And  simultaneously at that too, which is a nice change of pace compared to the predecessor model.

On the official Black Shark Malaysia Facebook page, the company says that the local launch of the phone will take place early next month. Specifically, the launch will happen on 8 June 2022, and will be conducted via livestream on Facebook and TikTok.

The Black Shark 4 came to our shores not too long after it was launched internationally. But it would take another nine months before the pro model would make an appearance. It was a very bizarre situation, which also meant that the phone is a year behind most of the competition.

From the Black Shark Malaysia launch teaser, it doesn’t look like the Black Shark 5 will be separated from its Pro variant when they launch locally. This also means that there’s a less than half a year gap between the launch of the two Pro variants, which is also quite unusual.

The Black Shark 5 is expected to come with a 6.67-inch Full HD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage space and a 4650mAh battery that supports 120W charging. For its cameras, it has a 64MP main + 13MP wide angle + 2MP macro setup. In front, there’s a 16MP shooter.

While the Black Shark 5 Pro has many similarities with the base model, there are a few key differences. Most important of them all is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. While it has the same display, is has support for HDR10+. Storage goes up to 512GB while RAM has a new maximum of 16GB. The main camera setup is also slightly different, sporting a 108MP main + 13MP wide angle +5MP telephoto / macro combo instead.
