The 13-inch macBook Pro that was refreshed in July has reportedly been having issues with unexpected shutdowns. Apple has acknowledged this, and has posted a new support document detailing trouble shooting steps to take.
That said, the fix looks to be a lot simpler than the issue sounds. All you need to do is to drain your 13-inch MacBook Pro’s battery to below 90%, plug it in, quit all applications, put it to sleep, and leave it alone for eight hours.
After eight hours, you should then update to the latest version of macOS, if you’re not running it already. These steps should help fix the issue, but if it doesn’t, Apple suggests getting in contact with the company instead.
MacRumors reports that this is quite the prevalent issue among its users, with the MacBook Pro in question shutting off with plenty of charge left in the battery. Many of them reportedly sent their MacBook Pros back to Apple for a replacement, only to face the same issue.
One user on Apple’s support forums say that it may be an issue with the MacBook Pro’s battery calibration. This caused the system to give inaccurate readings about the actual battery level.
