Terengganu FA Now Has Its Own eSports Team: Claims To Be The First in Asia

As eSports is being more recognized throughout the world, it is inevitable that traditional sports organizations have start to show interest in the virtual version of their sports. One of the latest example is Terengganu Football Association (FA) who has recently announced the creation of its own eSports team – claimed to be the first not only in Malaysia but also in Asia.

According to a joint press statement that was released earlier today by Garena who is responsible for all FIFA Online 3 (FO3) matters in Malaysia, Terengganu FA has roped in two FO3 players to represent the team. The team has also confirmed its participation in the upcoming Red Bull Coliseum that will take place next month.

In a separate post on its Facebook page last week, Terengganu FA apparently will be organizing an open selection at Chicken Cottage Kuala Terengganu on 30 September. The details are rather sketchy though especially given the fact that the team is planning to use the PS4 version of FIFA 17 even though the selection is for FO3 players.

Furthermore, the selection is apparently looking for three players even though the team already have two players under its wings as pointed in today’s press statement. These confusions aside, the creation of Terengganu FA’s own eSports team can generally be taken as a positive sign to the current growth of eSports in Malaysia especially since the team intends to expand its reach in other games as well.

Of course, the team still has to prove its worth in the scene though and we sincerely hope that Terengganu FA will not become yet another half-baked casualty that we’ve seen in the past.
