It looks like the Samsung Gear S3 frontier edition is here to stay for a while longer. Samsung has announced a partnership with lifestyle brand TUMI to produce the Gear S3 frontier TUMI special edition.
Like most special edition smartwatches, this mostly involves a new band and watch face. The new band is made from Italian canvas, and Samsung is selling it as something that will resist wear and tear while traveling. That said, the actual smartwatch component is still the S3 frontier edition from before.
Partnering with Luxury brands isn’t exactly something new for electronics companies these days. Android makers have been experimenting with Porsche Design for smartphones and Louis Vuitton for luxury watches. It’s difficult to say if any of this has paid off; considering that the luxury electronics market is rather small.
Samsung may also be suggesting that a potential Gear S4 is not coming any time soon. Unless this is just a clever way to sell the last of the Gear S3 frontier editions to make room for an updated device.
The Gear S3 frontier TUMI special edition looks to be a US specific release. Being sold only through Samsung.com and Best Buy. Why anyone would be looking for luxury watches in Best Buy is a mystery, but expect to see it around for $449.99 (RM1925).
