Canon has launched a pair of new flagship EOS cameras for the Malaysian market. The Canon EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R heat up the megapixel wars by deploying Canon’s 50.6MP CMOS sensors, the largest resolution produced by the company this far.
Both EOS 5DS and 5DS R are identical for the most part. The full frame cameras share the same body, weight, 50.6MP sensor, and dual DIGIC 6 imaging processor. They also have the same 100-6400 ISO range, although that can be expanded to 50-12800. The auto-focus is 61-points Phase Difference AF with iTR AF to put them on par with the current Canon EOS 5D Mark III. A new mirror vibration control system to counteract the effect of shaky hands has implemented to help steady shots for maximum clarity.
The only difference between the EOS 5DS and 5DS R is the ‘S’ has an optical low-pass filter, while the ‘S R’ has a self-cancelling filter. Well, that and the price of the two models.
Canon will begin selling the Canon EOS 5DS and 5DS R in Malaysia from the end of June. The Canon EOS 5DS will retail for RM13,999 (inclusive of GST), while the EOS 5DSR will retail for RM14,999 (also inclusive of GST).
