Spec Sheet: LG G4 Compared to Other 2015 Flagships

LG has unveiled it’s long-awaited flagship device, the G4. Interestingly enough, it is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 six-core processor instead of a 810 chipset that is powering other 2015 flagship smartphones such as the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro and the HTC One M9. That being said, how does the LG G4 compare to other 2015 flagships?

Other than having a Snapdragon 808 processor under its hood, the LG G4 also has a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable internal storage, 16MP rear and 8MP front-facing cameras, a 3,000mAh battery, and a rather unique genuine leather back cover.

In comparison to other 2015 flagship smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S6, the LG G4 has a microSD card slot and a removable battery; features which certain consumers find very important. On top of that, the G4’s genuine leather back cover could arguably make it feel more premium than the S6’s glass back. However, it’s likely that the Snapdragon 808 processor will be outmatched by Samsung’s Exynos 7420 processor.

The Sony Xperia Z4 and HTC One M9, on the other hand, have a smaller, lower resolution display than the LG G4’s 5.5-inch quad HD display. But, in terms of raw processing power, it still remains to be seen. Strictly speaking, the Snapdragon 810 processor will probably outclass the 808 chipset, but there might be a reason why LG has decided to use the latter processor. After all, this is the first device to be equipped with a Snapdragon 808 SoC.

Of course, this comparison wouldn’t be complete without taking into account devices from Xiaomi. From the table above, it seems like the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro is the closest rival to the LG G4 rather than the other two devices. While both devices have a QHD display, the Mi Note Pro has a slightly bigger display. It also has an arguably better processor that is paired with 4GB of RAM instead of the G4’s 3GB RAM.

Now, understand that Xiaomi is touting its new Mi 4i as a flagship device, which is the reason why it made it into this comparison. It’s painfully obvious that the LG G4 outmatches the Mi 4i in almost every aspect, but the G4 doesn’t have dual 4G SIM support. It does, however, have a bigger internal storage that can be further expanded with a microSD card up to 128GB.

The LG G4 is definitely a smartphone that is worthy of its flagship status. However, the fact that it is powered by a Snapdragon 808 processor does raise more than a few eyebrows. It’s a little perplexing as to why the LG G Flex 2 is powered by a Snapdragon 810 chipset but the flagship G4 is not. In any case, a full review of the LG G4 should shed some light on this odd processor choice.
