For a while now, Facebook has given us some leads and stories that we have posted on the Lowyat.NET frontpage but it’s never really been considered a reliable source for news given the nature of the site, nor does it need to be. Facebook has been trying to make the move from unverified murmurs to harder news and now with the dedicated Facebook Page called Newswire, it may just be a must follow for journalists.
In order to find trending stories that are suitable to be pushed out, Facebook is partnering with Storyful, a social news aggregation company with access to massive numbers of public posts on Facebook each day. “We bring in Storyful’s ability to find news from that incredible volume of content, find it, verify it, and curate it into one manageable place” says Aine Kerr, Managing Editor of Storyful.
