It seems like LG isn’t really saving anything for some surprises at the upcoming IFA 2014 event in Berlin a week from now. We now know that LG had announced the L Bello, and the L Fino, and even introduced a new phablet into its mid-range offering — the LG G3 Stylus. Just hours ago, the company has made the previously teased LG G Watch R official along with an impressive spec sheet.
The smartwatch is apparently running on the Android Wear platform and will probably still boast the same user interface as the current generation of Android Wear smartwatches. The LG G Watch R will be the first to use a circular P-OLED display that fills all the gaps for a fully circular 1.3-inch screen panel. The new wearable device bears a rather similar spec sheet with its predecessor, the LG G Watch. It sports a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 4GB storage and 512MB RAM, and a 410mAh battery. LG has retained the 9-axis gyro/accelerometer/compass, and it is also dust and water resistant up to IP67 rating.
The LG G Watch R may not have a built-in WiFi connectivity such as the recently announced Gear S Smartwatch by Samsung. However, the company has adopted one of Samsung’s known traits in design, which is a built in optical heart rate sensor to suit the fitness buffs out there.
The timepiece is mainly constructed with a metal build in which LG takes pride in describing it as a wearable with an “artisanal elegance.” Users would also be able to change the leather skin watch band.
The G Watch R will be part of LG’s showcase at the coming IFA 2014 in Berlin, and will be made available in select international markets from Q4 2014. Pricing details will vary by market, and will only be unveiled at the respective local launches.
