Winamp might not mean much to the younger generation, but for those of us who grew up in the late 90s it was everything. It was the first music player that many of us used back when MP3s were still a new thing. Yes, kids; there was a time when we didn’t have digital music.
That era has come to an end now. AOL has announced that it is shutting down Winamp for good. By 20 December, all Winamp webservices and streaming will stop. Plus, the software will no longer be available for download.
Nobody should be surprised by the move. After all, Winamp has been largely forgotten in recent times. It is still a sad day for those of us who grew up with it and all those whipped llamas.
