Why You'll Probably Never Own A J-Phone

Ever wondered why J-Phones almost never make it out of Japan? So have we, and apparently, so have the folk over at the Giz, who addressed the matter in an interesting piece called "Why Zen Software Design Does Not Come From Japan".

"On one of my more recent trips to Tokyo, I conferred with some tech and culture experts and picked their brains to try to figure out why. Mobile phones in Japan are a multi-gazillion dollar industry, so why aren't they coming out with the next super-phone? The answer, it seems, lies in some kinks and quirks in Japanese industry and personality."

But before you hop over, here's a friendly word of warning: they use the word "Zen" an awful lot in there, and quite honestly, we find it somewhat amusing. As Asians who were born and bred in Asia, we can barely recall - if ever - using the word "Zen" in any form or fashion. It's almost as if "Zen" has become the new "Chop Suey".

You both are wrong and right.
Western mobile phones company & technologies are dominating Asian market for example here in Malaysia, Maxis, Digi, Celcom etc

and Yes, obviously they don't want the more SUPER ADVANCE PHONERY GADGETRY of Japan to flood asian/malaysia cause we are Western watering hole.

Yes, it seems that human greed will either move us forward or backward depending of your affiliations.

Yes, It seems WIMAX too suffering because of this farce.

One reason JDM mobile phones never make it out of Japan is pretty straight forward - they do not have sim card like mobile phones over the rest of the world (almost). But the article wasn't talking about why Japan is not exporting mobile phones to the rest of the world. It was about why Japanese phone company never came out with a phone with simple user interface.

I can agree with author on a single point - "Software engineer get no love", but not the other points.

duh.. pc overheating.. cpu fan blowing like A360 is taking off..blue-smiley

i think not the jphone dun wan out from japan. As u can see now, taiwan n china starting selling the SH906 asia version.i think probably is the big manufacturer:nokia,samsung,SE......forcing them to halt the export of jphone, case they cant catch up the japan technology.if the jphone out from japan,i think nokia,samsung,SE,motorola...............their share will drop AGAIN!!!thumbsup
