U Mobile Launches Surf with U

Wednesday, 12 March 2008 01:49 AM

U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 3G and Mobile Live TV service provider today announced the launch of Surf with U, the company’s first ever high-speed mobile internet plan for the mass market. Combining affordability, simplicity, ease of use and convenience all in one plan, U Mobile is confident that Surf with U will appeal greatly to its young, dynamic and highly mobile target market who appreciates value for money.

Surf with U taps into U Mobile’s unique HSDPA-driven high-speed network to deliver a true broadband-like experience to mobile users. Priced at only RM78 per month, the plan which includes one of the smallest HSDPA USB modems currently available in the market as part of its package, is considered to be one of the most affordable plans of its kind in the country.

The milestone launch is a result of U Mobile’s continuous quest for intimate consumer understanding which revealed that there was a desire in the market for an affordable yet powerful data-driven plan that is also easy to use. This underlines U Mobile’s commitment to continue to develop products, services and content that is always relevant and more importantly, truly enriching for its target audience.

“Since U Mobile was introduced, we’ve been very busy studying and constantly updating our understanding of the wants and needs of our customers, specifically our young, dynamic and highly mobile target market. We have confidence that Surf with U perfectly compliments their busy and eventful lifestyles, extending their ability to maximise the use of their time for work or play. Through our high-speed mobile internet service we are, essentially, enriching their lives and we hope to launch many more enriching products in the months to come,” explained Kenneth Chang, Executive Director of U Mobile.

At launch, Surf with U will be available within Klang Valley where U Mobile’s unique HSDPAdriven network is at its most comprehensive. As this network continuously expands, so to will the data plan’s availability, expanding into market centres throughout the county. This is to ensure that U Mobile’s customers can always expect and enjoy the best mobile broadband experience possible wherever they are. “We are very pleased with this new high-speed mobile internet offering. By combining ease of use, convenience and most importantly, affordability in one plan we are confident that Surf with U has practical advantages that our customers can enjoy right away. To ensure that the broadband surfing experience is as potent as possible, the plan will be introduced in stages in the Klang Valley first and then rapidly expanding to market centres throughout Malaysia.” Chang added.

In anticipation for a more competitive, open and consumer-driven market this year, eager consumers can expect U Mobile to make available very soon a full suite of innovative and diversified products and services as the company’s partnership with global mobile leaders KT Freetel and NTT DoCoMo begin to bear fruit. Surf with U is available from today.

U Mobile will be organising special roadshows to promote the new plan. In addition, Surf with U will also be available at selected shopping complexes and IT malls in the Klang Valley. Log on to www.u.com.my for more about Surf with U.

Dear Kenneth Chang,

First and foremost I would like to apologized - no I do think that maybe you should apologized to me, either way lah. I would like to say that this is not a personal attack but more to a cry that I would think that you should be alert to because I am not the only one complaining obviously. The rest, you can click here, here and here.

I have been subscribing to your broadband plan for let say more than three months now and I must say that by far, nothing satisfies me. I felt cheated, being conned in a way. The first week that I tried it out, everything was fine, download, upload, net surfing everything was fine to me and because of all that, I decided to stick to U-Mobile.

After a few weeks, the thing gets a little slower and at first I thought that is quite okay because it is normal because a lot of people using maybe but at night it will still be okay. It was not that bad I must say. Then when after a few months, it started to test my patience. I really can’t believe it that sometimes I couldn’t connect at all to the service what more to say to enjoy super fast Internet speed like what you promised. Seriously, I felt like smashing your modem. It can’t be real no more because your mask is skin and bones.

I am pissed every time I try to get online and for that reason, I am very much demoralized - I don’t blog that much, I became creative-less in a way. I failed to write good post and sometimes not even a mediocre post I tell you. Should I file a lawsuit? If this is the US then you might get a knock in the head because of this lousy service. You have caused the life of a blogger be in a disarray! Save this! My rage is bliss! I’m takin’ names and gettin’ pissed! Oh, and for your information, I did not publish this earlier because I CAN’T EVEN FREAKING CONNECT TO YOUR FREAKING SLOW SERVICE!

And I mentioned earlier on in my last few post that my laptop died and so since I am not using the service, I would like to put the thing on hold. The keyword here is put it ON HOLD. Do I need to explain the word ON HOLD to you? Let me know if you do.

I went down to your service center at Times Square. I told one of your officer about my problem and I would like to get the service to be put on hold until I get myself a new laptop because I don’t find it inside the frayed end of sanity for me to pay for something that I’m not using. So, again I used the word put it ON HOLD. I didn’t say that I want to cancel my subscription because I do understand that I have sign up for a contract of two friggin years to be happy or die with it in agony.

All I asked was for a simple thing that you can do, I won’t run away because you have my IDs and whatever details that you want to know. I am dissatisfied with this matter. I am freaking mad that I want to scream at your staffs at that moment but being a person who is also working in the same environment I put myself back to my sanity and try to talk it out nicely.

I do hope that you will give me a better solution for my problem because I do not want to pay for something that I do not use and I can tell you this, if you continue to do it like this, you will lose more customer, more then you would know about.

My anger is to the extend that I could easily just call you a conman and a heartless piece of **** but I hope I won’t be saying such things if I do get the chance to meet you in real person because I do think that there is a certain amount of respect that I should pay towards you also. I do believe that all men should be true to their words, as I am to mine I hope you to yours too.

And for those who are thinking of subscribing U-Mobile, my advice is - think twice or better still, DON’T EVEN THINK OF IT. Well, at least until the day that they improve.

I really hate umobile because they throttle my Internet speed!

You guys can try P2P application, umobile is the suckest Internet service provider, they limit and slower yr download speed, even some webpages u will not able to surf however it isn't a porn! so stupid!

The speedtest is never been accurate! Different speedtest u get different result.

I want to emphasize, never tried umobile. It is the lousiest broadband, it is a stupid narrow band!

I would say frankly about my experience with umobile until day of 23-May-2008, they had throttled my downloading speed to 5kBytes/s or equal to 40kbps.

With normal downloading using http or ftp protocol, the downloading speed i can get is approximately 40kbps.

Due to heavily bandwidth throttling, I cannot play youtube videos at all.

After that I have made some complaints and i do not know what will happen after 23-may-2008.

Beside that, I also tried with p2p software such as bitcomet, bittorrent, xunlei, etc.. my downloading speed are throttled and stopped at 0kbps!!!

It is ZERO kbps!!! Crazy! I believe some other umobile users will experiecnce the same thing like me.

Please share your story with me, if u have the same umobile IP address i.e. 123.136.101.197.

actually i quite disagree with a lot of the comments about u-mobile being slow and all. I live in shah alam, and from what i've experienced myself..umobile works quite well. It's even better than MAXIS coz my girlfriend who is using one always got disconnected and its hard to get connected to the web again. And whats good is that u-mobile allows p2p download not like certain broadband services that is currently in the market.we should give umobile a chance since it's just started.soon i'm sure things will be a lot different than now.laughing-smiley

The real fact about umobile DL & UL

Download average speed = 1800kbps = 225kBps
Upload average speed = 60kbps = 7.5kBps

Obviously, Umobile upload speed is extremely slow. I also noticed that umobile has been throttled or banned any download manager software such as bitcomet, free download manager, xunlei, etc.

If u use any of the mentioned software, you won't be able to download files smoothly, they will lag you.

About the download speed, they actually achive the speed of 1.8Mbps but their routers are not configured to the optimum setting therefore everyone get jammed when browsing the websites, except izzi.com.my perhaps under the same internet cloud therefore we can surf this izzi pages very fast at 1.8Mbps!!!

Conclusion, umobile is sucking now but i do not know their future.
How long they will improve their congested network, please do ask their customer service agent.

pls dun give a test for their services.. even in KLCC full bar also behave the same... give them 3 months to solve their problem? hahaha

The download speed I can achieve is 20kbps which is ridiculous slow and a very consistent upload speed at 55kbps which is slow also. Their technician has informed me, they will improve my speed as soon as possible but until now 1-may-2008 i do not see any good result. Overall, UMobile service is very bad at the moment!

I'm forced to subscribe to Maxis 3G as Puchong is not covered under TM phone line.
Paying rm98 per month is not getting me better internet broadband as well.
And this U Mobile is just a few months old, give it some time to mature
As all ISP at M'sia is not up to the mark if u compare it with S'pore, Japan and so on.
U think 5GB from U Mobile is bad? This Maxis 3G is limiting 3GB access only.

anyway, i have to cancel and get stuck with a worthless modem which have to be reconfigured (which i dont have any idea how to yet), to work with another service if such is available.

any how can they detect bandwidth usage if users use the same ip address?

I use celcom broadband which works great and much better than the rest. I get 2Mbps easily (damansara perdana) and have had no problems so far, much better than streamyx and maxis . The 5G limit is new to me but dont understand how anyone can download 5G unless they are doing movie downloads (which ends up throttling us 'legit users'), so would recommend anyone to take up Celcom's service. Plus it works very well in most areas even outside the flat.

But tested the speed today in my office in Damansara Intan and the results that I got was astonishing. Managed to get DL of 1997kbps... I'm happy for now but if the speed maintains I'll be extremely happy... thumbsup

Wireless will never b better than wired connection as wired is guaranteed more stable than wireless n i heard streamyx will introduce IPTV in Malaysia in year 2009 by using somethg like creating a huge "Local Area Network" in Msia so the users can watch the IPTV like watching Astro and the resolution will be at least PAL and they are looking into HD quality too!

ermm i suggest please just wait for P1 to go huge and release their WIMAX. no point for these ciplak ciplak providers. For the time being stick to streamyx. Hav u seen all these other providers coming in, eg: maxis 3G (users regret applying for it as they bind u in a contract and its EFFING slow, no no its not 3.5mbps.), celcom 3G (huh!! wasup), DiGi wireless broadband (hahaha they hav vanished, their launch and exit both went unheard.), izzy (no one bothers, but at least it works to some extent in its own hot zones.), but of all whatever we all hav experienced UNWANTINGLY streamyx still serves us the best compared to the others, even if not the best at its own, but at least its STABLEr than the above mentioned, u can tweak and download muvis, unlimited access and downloads...so just wait for a branded and a well established one like P1 to launch WIMAX. these cheap ones are of no good.

I saw this offer while I was in town, I could not afford to get the offers by others becoz need deposits and up-front payment - pay so much without having the experience first...

So I paid fifty and took the U mobile home... got 8 days policy to return, what's to lose?

For two days, been downloading movies... walau.. 1 movie only 45 mins using RS...

Not bad... maybe not many users yet...

Actually, telling us for expecting 1.8Mbps, is just their theoritically stated. so, nobody know, until they tested it out.

but with the stingy 8MB testing data (for Uplaod and Download), i dun think we able test out any differences. Somemore, once u surf 9MB, haha... u r in trouble. mayb if line is slow, then u might nid to bear all the speed for 24 months. which is killing u softly. haha

thumbsdownBetter look at the terms and conditions carefully. Need to sign for 24 months, if terminate earlier, need to pay few hundred dollars. Some more, the coverage is from U Mobile tower, which is rather limited.

1.8 For our Broadband Service, your total usage per month shall NOT exceed 5GB of data volume transmitted (total upload and download usage). This is to ensure that no subscriber can congest the bandwidth at all times.

1.9 If you require more than 5GB, you must make a written request to us. However, we have the right to reject your application or charge for such additional data volume.
