On 17 September every year around the world, the Terry Fox Run Marathon of Hope would be held to raise fund for cancer research. In Malaysia, Terry Fox Run will be entering its 12 years of event. This year, it would be held on 4th November 2007 with flag off point at Taman Tasik Perdana (Lake Gardens). This run is a noble run, a run for charity, an event suitable for family and friends. You donate while you having some fun.

For those who are interested in joining, no registration or fees is required. You can run, roller blading, cycle, walk, jog or whatever you can think off along the designated route. There will be 2 routes, in which longer route for adults and a shorter route for children which are 6.5km and 3.2km respectively.  However, participants are encouraged to arrive before 8am and to purchase a T-shirt for the run, which costs RM25.  Extra donations are of course welcomed.  Proceeds of sales of shirts, donations and sponsorship will go to The Cancer Research Initiative Foundation (CARIF).

Read on for further details of Terry Fox and on participating.  Pictures of last year's run can be found on LensaMalaysia.

Terry Fox is a Canadian who was diagnosed with bone cancer when he was 18 years old and had one of his legs amputated above his knee as a result.  While he was hospitalized, he was moved with what he saw, especially children who suffered cancer. He made a decision to organise a charity run across Canada in order to raise money for cancer research. Remarkably, he managed to finish total of 5373km out of 8500km which he ran for 143 consecutive days for 42km daily before cancer spread to his lungs and he had to abandoned the run and died at age of 22 years old.
