Symantec announced that it is strengthening its partnership with the Malaysian government and industry players through its involvement in the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber-Terrorism (IMPACT). IMPACT is the first global public-private initiative against cyber-terrorism, which drives collaboration among governments, industry leaders and cyber-security experts to enhance the global community’s capacity to prevent and respond to cyber-threats. The inaugural meeting of the IMPACT International Advisory Board is taking place today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as a part of the IMPACT World Cyber Security Summit.

“IMPACT is an excellent platform for governments and industry players to exchange ideas, best practices, share skills and work together in combating cyber threats. Symantec is committed to working with governments and industry players globally to help provide consumers and businesses with a safe and confident connected experience,” said David Thompson, group president, Information Technology and Services Group, Symantec Corporation.

Commenting on Symantec’s participation, Mohd Noor Amin, Chairman of IMPACT, said, "Symantec's participation in IMPACT is a crucial component for our success. Cyberspace knows no national boundaries and its security depends on global companies like Symantec. We commend Symantec for stepping forward to do its part."

Symantec will provide input on security threats into IMPACT's Global Response Center which will be located in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The center encompasses an early warning system, which represents a critical foundation of IMPACT to be funded by part of the US$13 million grant approved by the Malaysian government recently.

"Symantec's Global Intelligence Network combined with its extensive experience and knowledge in setting up security response centers globally will assist IMPACT in the development of a world-class early warning system.  Today's security threats are more focused and increasing in diversity and it is difficult for organisations to keep abreast of the rapid changes in today's threat landscape. IMPACT's early warning system will provide organisations with notifications on the latest threats, enabling them to take control and proactively secure and manage the integrity of their information," said Thompson.

"This collaboration will also see Symantec extend its intelligence and value to the entire industry and beyond our existing customers. IMPACT is a valuable platform that enables the private sector to contribute in preventing and responding to rapidly evolving cyber threats," Thompson added.

Symantec has been engaging with governments across the globe to strengthen the policy environment, secure the infrastructure, achieve greater international collaboration, as well as raise public awareness on cyber security issues.
