Kamarulzaman Mohamed, a party youth official, told The Associated Press on Monday that Lavigne's show was "considered too sexy for us" and would promote the wrong values just before independence day.

Malaysia requires all performers to wear clothes without obscene or drug-related images and be covered from the chest to the knees. They must also refrain from jumping, shouting, hugging and kissing on stage.

UPDATED : We've been told the concert is now back on. Avril Lavigne says is back on, the organizers says its back on. No word from the people who called it off in the first place just yet. Has Merdeka been moved to a different date instead?

ooo canceled, thank god i didnt get the tickets for my sis yet. To all those who keeps on preaching "this is the 22nd century trend" please think hard on how tragic that sounds espeacially with the ridiculous "EMO" crowd blooming in KL all of a sudden. I've seen Avril live in proper outfit that would fit the local crowd, but the reason for her cancelation is because she's to proud to adhere and respect our "multi racial" customs (yes u moron, while a hundred here sez YES, another 101 probably sez NO, so accept it or be a racist) Its her fault she got cancelled, ive been to her concerts in LA, she had no toruble being subtle before... why not now ? zapadi bap ~ on my blackberry bold (love typing this post with it)

is that true?? been cancelled, the latest news i heard was it will be scheduled for later time cozz the current date is not appropriate especially when it is in Malaysian Independence month, as will affect the celebration, but ... still looking for a chance for the concert to be held ..

ED: Yes, i'm sure Avril has got all the time in the world to reschedule and come here at another date - probably in 3 years time.

The only image i can think of after looking at jumping, shouting, hugging are traditional dances from orang asli which is rich in culture. So people can dance, jumping, shouting, hugging and you are banning them??
The only word i can think of is retarded.Even commercial promoting love have kissing scene so what, just because in the commercial they are relatives so they can kiss and have that scene broadcasted whole country?
