Samsung has announced their GDDR5 (graphics double-data-rate memory, series 5), which they say is the fastest memory chip with a transfer speed of 6GBps. It is also said to be able to transfer moving images and associated data at up to 24GBps. Currently GDDR4 transfer speeds are at 4GBps so you'll understand the big fuss over GDDR5. Samples of the chip have already been delivered to the major graphics processor companies and that would most likely include ATI and nVidia. As Samsung is expecting mass production of the chips to start in 2nd Half of 2007, we should be expecting cards equipped with the chips out around that time as well.
