Yesterday, Toshiba showed off a bevy of new laptops across both the Satellite and Qosmio series. With something for everyone, this refresh with Intel's 3rd generation Ivy Bridge processor will be a huge improvement from the previous incarnations of the laptops. In the spotlight was the new Qosmio X870 gaming laptop, a 3D enabled 17.3inch monster with an Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor, up to 16GB of RAM, 750GB Hybrid Drive (ala Seagate Momentus XT), NVIDIA GeForce GTX670M, Blu Ray writer as well as a Harman Kardon stereo sound system. Also included is gigabit ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI support and an illuminated keyboard. The X870 looks like a monster gaming laptop, but of course with no price information at the moment, it's kind of hard to gauge how good it actually can be.

Heading the new Satellite series, the P850 Premier features glasses free 3D technology, a sexy brushed aluminum finish and is powered by the latest Intel Core i7 processors, up to 16GB of RAM as well as up to 1TB Hard disk space. The P850 comes in both 3D and non 3D models,

On top of this, Toshiba has also released the new Satellite M800, L800 and C800 models to round out their already versatile range of laptops.

[Event] - Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012 Malaysian Finals

With a reputation as the world’s premier student technology competition, the Imagine Cup by Microsoft is here once again as a platform for students across the globe to bring their ideas forward which could one day become the answer to the world’s toughest problems. This year, 30 teams out of 47 semi-finalists were chosen and flown to the 2012 Imagine Cup Malaysian Finals here in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to present their project but only one will be able to bring their idea further to the 2012 Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals in Sydney, Australia this July.

“Having been in Malaysia for almost 20 years now, we are committed to help Malaysia transform education by providing students with the opportunity and tools to unleash their creative and innovative potential and imagine a better world. This is where Imagine Cup comes in: it showcases the inventiveness, maturity and sophisticated thinking of Malaysian students to address the world’s challenges in new ways and deliver innovative technology solutions that can truly change and solve global issues,” - Ananth Lazarus, Managing Director, Microsoft Malaysia.

In addition to the spot at the 2012 Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals in Sydney, the champion will also walk away with prizes worth RM 10,000. Not enough with that, the 2012 Imagine Cup Malaysian Finals also offers quite a number of other prizes such as Social Cause Award, Innovations Award, Presentation Stars, Windows Phone Challenge and Kinect Fun Labs Challenge as well as special award for top three mentors.

The Microsoft Imagine Cup Malaysian Finals is organized by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka together with the Universiti Malaysia Sabah as the host and with the support from Prestariang Berhad, TM, Multimedia Development Corporation, Ministry of Higher Education, Sabah Tourism Board and Sabah State Government.

We will be here at Kota Kinabalu throughout the competition to check out these projects by the finalists of Imagine Cup Malaysia, so stay tuned for more. For the meantime, click on the Read More link for the scenes from the Imagine Cup Malaysian Finals welcoming reception last night.

Samsung Malaysia To Preview Galaxy S III To Media Next Week
by Chapree
Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:48 PM

We are pretty sure that you already know that the Samsung Galaxy S III will be available in Malaysia soon enough but you might be asking…how soon? Well, we don’t have the exact launch date for the time being but we believe that we are getting closer to it as indicated by an email that we received earlier today.

Apparently, Samsung Malaysia will be organizing a launch/preview event for Galaxy S III for Malaysian media members sometime next week. Obviously, we are going to be there to give the device our usual up close treatment for your enjoyment and we will also try to dig more information on its imminent release in Malaysia such as dates, pricing and other important details.

For the meantime, do let us know if you have any question or any particular part of Samsung Galaxy S III that we should check out at the event. You know the drill - just post it up through the comment section of this post, Facebook or Twitter.

HTC Unveils Entry Level Desire C With Sense 4.0
by Lucas

HTC has just unveiled the new Desire C, an entry level handset that runs Ice Cream Sandwich. The Desire C will be sitting right below the recently launched HTC One V in terms of price and features, with a 3.5inch QVGA screen at 320 x 480 resolution, 5MP camera and beats audio. There is no word on processor speed yet, but we would hazard a guess of 1GHz single core, although there have been rumors of a 600mHz processor. The cool thing is that the HTC Desire C will come with a cool 25GB Dropbox usage that is found in the One Series handsets. HTC says it will come with Sense 4.0 but missing a few features that you will find in the One series.

No idea on the price or availability for Malaysia yet, but since it is being released in the UK soon, we can't imagine there will be much of a delay to bring it over here.

Lenovo Announces The ThinkPad X1 Carbon
by Lucas

The Lenovo ThinkPad has always been quite a sturdy, dependable notebook. We have already seen one of their best, the X1 last year, but since Ivy Bridge has rolled into town, the X1 has gotten quite a kick ass refresh. First of all, the new X1 has grown 1inch into a 14inch ultraportable laptop and is being marketed as an Ultrabook. Even though it's gained an inch, it hasn't beome thicker, instead it has been trimmed down. What's the secret you may ask? Carbon Fibre.

Lenovo have gone all out with the new Thinkpad X1 Carbon, bumping up the resolution to 1600 x 900, tweaked the backlit, spill-resistant keyboard and added 3G connectivity as an optional extra. Under the hood you will also get Intel's new ivy Bridge processor with the new vPro management technology and integrated graphics.

What do you think? While the specs are still quite up in the air, we can't wait to actually try one out!

BlackBerry OS 10 Home Screen Previewed By RIM
by Lucas
Tuesday, 15 May 2012 02:30 PM
http://images.lowyat.net/BB10_1.jpeg

At BlackBerry World 2012, RIM showed off the first glimpses of what the future Mobile Computing Platform BB OS 10 was going to be like and boy did it look like a breath of fresh air for BlackBerry as a whole. Unfortunately, at the convention, there were no working units for us to play with, as all the BB 10 Dev Alpha devices were just environments for the devs to make sure their apps ran smooth on the new OS. We couldn't preview exactly what the OS would look like or even try any of the functionality we saw at the keynote.

http://images.lowyat.net/BB10_1.jpeg

Thanks to the guys at Engadget who got a preview from RIM, we finally have a look at what BB10 will look like on the device. The first picture looks like the usual widget laden home screen we are familiar with on android when in fact they are simply open apps which change due to your usage. Lots of the interface will be gesture driven and it won't be anything super revolutionary, but credit where credit is due, I think it looks quite good for what we are used to from RIM.

The question is, how will this experience translate to a smaller screen that we are more familiar with for BlackBerries?

Siri Changes It's Mind On What The Best Phone Is
by Lucas

Some of you may have read about the kerfuffle and the overly honest answer that Siri was giving to the question "What Is The Best Smartphone Ever" yesterday which Nokia fans will be very happy about. The digital assistant offered up the Lumia 900 as the best smartphone out now by trawling the net for user reviews. Unfortunately this little victory has been short-lived as Apple has patched this little bout of honesty and reverting Siri to the Apple worshiping electronic assistant that it was intended to be.

The Nokia Lumia 900 is the best due to a catalog of 4 different 5 star reviews and will still come up if you ask Wolfram Alpha this query. This proves how dependent on the engine Siri is.

New MacBook Pros To Have Ivy Bridge, Retina Display, USB3.0
by Lucas
Tuesday, 15 May 2012 10:57 AM
1

It's a no brainer that the new MacBook Pro's are coming soonish and that they will most likely be sporting the new Ivy Bridge processors from Intel, however what else can we expect from the next-generation laptop? According to sources close to the Apple supply chain, the new MacBook Pros will be the first in the line to get Retina displays as well as will be getting a slimmer profile. The 15inch model is said to be omitting the optical drive in order to trim down while the power button takes the place of the eject button. The display is rumored to be up to 2880 x 1800 for a 15incher which is no small thing, god knows how much you'll have to squint for that! Last but not least, the new MacBook Pro's are going to have USB3.0 which is way overdue. Mac users need not be envious at their Windows counterparts on the amazing speeds that USB3.0 gives.

For now all of these are just rumors but whatever it is, we will probably find out more once WWDC swings around!

Diablo III SEA Launch: The Madness Brewing, Fans Already In Queue At 6AM
by Chapree

[Event] Diablo III SEA Launch Singapore Day 0

The launch event of Diablo III in Southeast Asia might only takes place tomorrow but here at Funan DigitaLife Mall in Singapore, eager fans have already queued up for the event – one of the two official Diablo III launch event in this region - since as early as 6AM. There is no doubt that the game certainly has some of the most hardcore fans around.

The launch area is still pretty empty though when we visited it earlier today at around 7PM and stumbled upon these guys. There were not even any significant structures around to show that the Diablo III launch event will take place at the area but that surely didn’t deterred these hardcore frontliners from camping there. They pretty much organized their own queue, complete with a makeshift signboard.

[Event] Diablo III SEA Launch Singapore Day 0

Well, stay tuned as we will bring you more scenes from the Diablo III official launch event here in Singapore tomorrow!

UPDATE: We've uploaded the quick interview that we had with the first gamer in the queue which you can see above. We also visited the queue once again at around 11:30PM and it has grown...even though it is now outside of the mall. Click on the Read More link below to check it out.
