Motorola continues to go global in its effort to “spread RED” and eliminate HIV/AIDS in Africa with the announcement of MOTO (PRODUCT) RED in Malaysia.

Today’s announcement brings together mobile heavyweight, Celcom, in Malaysia with Motorola and (PRODUCT) RED, an initiative that marries the private sector with the buying power of the public in an effort to generate a sustainable flow of private sector funds towards the fight to eliminate AIDS in Africa.

As the exclusive worldwide wireless partner for (PRODUCT) RED, Motorola has developed a unique MOTO (PRODUCT) RED portfolio of signature handsets each designed to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. Launching this month in Malaysia, a special red MOTOSLVR L7 will be the first in a series of MOTO (PRODUCT) RED products available to Celcom consumers.

In addition to all the features and style you would expect from a Motorola handset, the RED MOTOSLVR L7 includes a direct US$17.00 (RM63)1 contribution to the Global Fund, which is made each time a MOTO (PRODUCT) RED handset is purchased in Malaysia.

“MOTO (PRODUCT) RED is highlighting a true global emergency and along with our partners in Malaysia, allows us to help consumers in Malaysia take part in the Global Fund’s effort to help eliminate AIDS in Africa,” said Eric Chong, Motorola Mobile Devices Business, Country Manager, Malaysia & Brunei. “Together we have the opportunity to make a difference and create real change in the world by placing in people’s hands the ability to get involved in a meaningful way.”

"We live in a world today that is more interdependent than it has ever been.  Many of us are trying to make a difference, and looking for ways to make a contribution. With the launch of the MOTO (PRODUCT) RED collection, we're now making it easier for everyone to do their bit," said Bobby Shriver, chief executive officer, (RED) TM. "By simply purchasing a mobile phone from the exclusive MOTO (PRODUCT) RED collection - not only will the public have an incredible phone but they will be playing their role in helping eliminate a global epidemic. And, because you're looking good, and doing good with a MOTO (PRODUCT) RED phone - you're going to feel good. Now, that's good business."

The Malaysia launch of MOTO (PRODUCT) RED comes shortly after the US, UK, Singapore, and Switzerland  launches, which brought an enthusiastic response from supporters of the fight against AIDS in Africa.

In an unprecedented demonstration of support, 11 leading Malaysian celebrities from the industries of acting, music, broadcast, fashion and photography have also aligned behind this important initiative by becoming MOTO (PRODUCT) RED Malaysian ambassadors to drive awareness and understanding of the emergency:

  1. Zizan Nin – Actor and model
  2. Azura Zainal – Radio and TV personality
  3. Daniel Tan – Actor and model
  4. Gavin Yap – Theatre director and actor
  5. Ida Nerina – Actress
  6. Jen Siow – Photographer
  7. Soo Kui Jien – TV personality in Malaysia and Singapore
  8. Joanne Kam – Entertainer and emcee
  9. Serena C – Radio and TV personality, and emcee
  10. Sonny San – Fashion Designer
  11. Sulina Baharin – Managing Partner, Ex model and actress

These ambassadors join many global names including David Beckham and Shaun White in rallying behind MOTO (PRODUCT) RED to drive awareness and understanding of the emergency.

Recent figures2 provided by the Global Fund demonstrate just how significant the individual contribution every new MOTO (PRODUCT) RED purchase can make. The proceeds of selling just three handsets can provide a year’s worth of school materials and daily hot meals for a child orphaned by AIDS.

Availability

The RED MOTOSLVR L7 is available in Malaysia now at a recommended retail price of RM649 with a Celcom Postpaid subscription at any Celcom branch.
