Mobile number portability is here - almost

After years of waiting, Mobile Number Portability will finally be implemented tomorrow (Friday). The initial service will be offered to Prepaid subscribers, while those on Postpaid lines will be able to join in the fun in a couple of weeks.

To those not so in tune with the technical jargon, Mobile Number Portability or MNP in short is a service that will allow you to switch telco providers without having to go through the hassle of changing your service number. After tomorrow, no longer will the prefixes of 016 solely be that of a DiGi subscriber, or 012 be an exclusive Maxis number.

With MNP finally in place, subscribers will have the convenient freedom of switching to competing telco providers while retaining their respective phone numbers. There will be a RM25 charge everytime the MNP is used to switch to a new telco.

The nationwide launch for the MNP service is in October, but prepaid users may start switching from tomorrow onwards. We have been informed prior to the nationwide launch, each telco is only allowed to process 100 MNP applications a day. Prepaid credit will not be transferred over to your new service provider, so finish up before you jump ship.

hi does that mean prepaid change to prepaid on other telcos or when you shift to other telco you must take postpaid?

great! with MNP on, the service provider will provide more competitive rate. I hope i don't have to change network (because of the rm25, and also the fuss), but if the rates of other telco is much better, then i wil hav no choice but to change.

i am glad that finally we customers got to choose the services that we want, but again what's the RM25
fee for??. Why would switching cost RM25,does it really cost them that much or just another rip off.

Guys, now that they are giving us a brand new service, we should be thankful and not complain saying that we have to pay RM25 for it and that it is only in Klang Valley...

This service is still new and they would require time to adjust. They are not just talking about changing the details in just one company but they would need to communicate between other companies to make this happen!

Grow up dude! Nothing is free in this world...

I'm glad it's here at last! It's a nightmare to kept the world updated with your new mobile number, and now it's gone (* happy *)

But, does anyone know the procedure? Should we approach the current provider or new provider for this service? *blank*

acctually this service is for nothing, why do we need like that.

if like they agree to give us extra signal strength wherever we go would be better.

And too all telco provider,in 1st place please improve the signal strength in Cyberjaya first then you can bring us down all those newly invented.

thank you

Have got enough spamming from Hxtlxxk these days, to a point where complaint was made through their online feedback tool but without response nor corrective action taken.
I would say MNP came just in time! By the time my credits used up, there would surely be another RM25 well spent..

Prepaid users --> paid before start using the services.

Postpaid users. ---> used then pay

that's why prepaid users should get more privileges.

To add, I don't get what's the excitement for prepaid users? If I'm on prepaid plan, I'd rather open up another prepaid account, and get an extra phone (or use the phones that support multiple SIM cards), and keep the old number. Those phones and SIM cards have gone way down in prices over the years after all.

Postpaid users are the ones waiting badly for MNP all these years!!

For DiGi, I hope, they'll roll out 3G (off recently acquired license from Time), or it will see many people jumping to Celcom and Maxis (or U-Mobile?) VERY SOON!

I don't understand why POSTPAID customers gets to be the LESS PRIVILEGED customers this time...

And looks like these always greedy Malaysia TELCOS will be having fun playing ping pong with customer and charging them a whopping up to RM25 each time (PLUS PREPAID CREDIT loss)!!

And again, people outside of Klang Valley get to be SECOND concerned group.

How RUDE!! And only 100 applications per day? Let the INSANITY BEGINS....

Now let's see among these telco clowns bring us the long awaited iPhone 3Gs, and won't charge like crazy (AT&T-like)...
thumbsdownclown
