Government Targets 50 Per Cent Broadband Penetration In 2010

It seems that broadband Internet has become a very popular issue among our Yang Berhormats lately, isn't it? After unveiling the national high speed broadband network last month, now our government has announced that they are going to push the nation’s household broadband penetration rate from 30 per cent to 50 per cent by next year.

Speaking at Asia-Pacific Ministerial Meeting on Strengthening Regional Collaboration towards Broadband Economy, our Minister of Information, Communication and Culture, Datuk Seri Dr. Rais Yatim pointed out that since few years ago, they have continuously working hand in hand to lower down the cost of broadband for the masses.

"However, this is still not enough. We need to do more and in this regard, we have instructed the regulator to review further, the prices for broadband services," - Minister of Information, Communication and Culture, Datuk Seri Dr. Rais Yatim

That sounds good Datuk Seri, but don’t forget that our ISPs need to buck up as well. May we suggest frequent checkups on the quality of our broadband internet service?

This is the message from our local ISP to all the Broadband users.

If you want good speed :-

1) Stop downloading pirated items. movies, mp3s, softwares.

2) Stop playing international online games, and only play local online games. It will save the international bandwidth.

3) If you cant get what you paid for, then stop using our services. Use your consumer power. Dont be an idiot who just whine and no action. and yes that means you DanielPK.

4) Move to a new location where the copper infra is still new. like in Bukit Jalil , Kinrara, Sepang, Nilai etc or move to a place where there is ISP who provide F2H.

5) Find a job in an ISP and see for yourself what shits the stupid malaysian customer is giving to the local ISP. then you will know the real story.

If you dont like malaysian ISP , go find another country where you think their ISP is good.

What's the point of penetration when a 384kbps is merely at 56K speed and we'all call it broadband. How shameful is that? I still recall our country e-filing demo some years back where consultants need to upload their drawings via online for new development/projects. It took more than hour to upload a single file then and it was such a disgrace that it was never introduce till this day.

If 56K speed is not enough, why not we all cap the end user usage and throttle the bandwidth. After all every ISP is doing it. If that's the attitude, then we are moving a step forward but 5 steps backwards. Well, what can the end user do? well nothing much frankly b'cuz there are only actions against no roll out but MMC have not figure out the root cause of our poor backbone.

Our gov likes to do somethings that can only be done via mouth. If they really want to reach 50%, all they need to do is subsidies the cost for all Malaysians who uses the broadband Internet like they did for the fuel. Speed up the broadband connection such as those Koreans. Read "http://gizmodo.com/5144345/korea-to-get-1gbps-downloading-by-2012"

I just moved into another rented house which is just 500m away from the old one. Yes, tmnut did it again. I've been subscribing to them for the last 4 years. They called in and say no phone line and I have to close down my phone and broadband account and wait until new phone line available....

Yeah... 50% penetration by next year... good luck
