Well it was bound to happen eventually. Netscape Navigator, the pioneer web browser is taking its final bow as AOL will no longer be providing the browser after February 1, 2008. Of course I highly doubt that most of you readers are actually using the Netscape browser anymore, and you're most likely using either FireFox or IE. Of course it still is kinda of weird seeing a long standing browser brand coming to an end. There will still be older version but it seems that the Netscape team is suggesting current users make a leap to Firefox, which I'm pretty sure quite a bit of us here have come to love. Well here's to the long run Netscape and may its final days be remembered.

Comment: Wow, finally the light will fade out!
I used Netscape as my first browser back in 1998 then IE then FireFox and now Opera.
Opera really rocks in term of features that are so handy for me. But still the free version is lack of security. I am not PC beginner user to be scared of security issue but I am daring enough to use Opera in all websites.
IE is quite stupid as it won't block background downloads. Firefox is very smart to block background downloads. Opera is pretty smart to alert you that there are website attempting to download something in background that the user can cancel and the AntiVirus will immediately block the application. Having Avast + Opera = No Security Worries.
Opera ROCKS! Try the latest opera with mouse gesture and speed dial. Superb feature that other browsers do not have.

Comment: It could be just rumors. Only AOL said it will no longer financially support the further development of Netscape. Mozilla will continue Netscape coz Netscape-AOL that created Mozilla in the first place. Netscape 10 already announced long before the the dismissal news.

Comment: Someone ought to tell Jaring. The way things stand at the moment their Self Care web site will only work with Netscape. They have server side scripting that refuses to work with anything other than IE or Netscape, and IE refuses to access most of the important parts of the site because all of their certificates expired in 2005. I had to download & install Netscape just yesterday so that I could top up my Wireless Flyte account.
