BMW today launched its 3rd edition of its popular annual short film competition called the BMW Shorties. Started initially from Malaysia, it has been modeled by other countries worldwide by BMW.
Aimed at nurturing that hidden talent in all young and amateur film maker, the BMW Shorties have been a great success locally with increasing participation and also globally with several BMW Shorties films being screened at multiple international film festivals.
This year's theme is LIFE, and the time limit of each short film is 12 minutes. Anyone above 18 years of age may take part with the exception of those who have entered and won in any local or international film festival, competition or awards.
All entries will be judged based on their originality, content, creativity, direction and emotional pull. The panel of judges are actress Ida Nerina, filmmaker Tan Chui Mui, last year's BMW Shorties winner Abdullah Zahir and two journalist from the local media, Surinder Jessy and June Wong. There will also be a special People's Choice Award, whereby members of the public will be able to vite for their favourite film online.
This year's grand price remains at RM72,000 however at the judges discretion, they may be more than 1 overall winner. This is to ensure the production grant is distributed to the individual or individuals with the most potential.
