Asus hits the living rooms

Thinking of finally getting a Media Centre PC or Home Theatre PC for the living room? Well I am but the problem with most MCPCs and HTPCs is that they look just damn ugly and bulky sitting next to that sweet 40" LCD or plasma TV you have in the living room, not to mention the design scheme just doesn't sit well with the missus. Well Asus seems to have solve that problem with its new Digital Home System A33. As you can see from the picture, the Digital Home System A33 is one sweet looking system that look more at home in the living room then it does in the study.

Image

And looks are not the only thing it can catch your fancy with. The Digital Home System A33 also come with an integrated HiFi 5.1 channel amplifier which is a class D digital amplifier with an SNR of 100dB+. This is not something you see in a HTPC or MCPC much if at all. Of course being based of Windows Vista home premium, it can also function as a full blow system as well. Unfortunately, we here in Malaysia will have yet to get our hands on it as it hasn't been brought in the country for sale... yet. So stay tuned to the site for updates and hopefully availabilty of it.

Meanwhile you can read on for more info on the Digital Home System A33 and its tech specs.

Designed to be the multimedia center of living or Audio rooms, the A33 allows seamless compatibility with most users’ current audio, video and Bluetooth devices; on the top of its varied support of the latest HD audio formats including SACD Hybrid, DVD Audio, HDCD, and XRCD – providing up to 24 bit/ 192KHz sample rates to deliver superior sound performance. It also supports the 802.11n wireless standard, and can easily transmit or download a 30-minute HD video in a minute without any lag.

The A33's intelligent room equalizer automatically configures the amplifier setting to best complement the surroundings and speaker placement with just one touch on the controller. A perfect audio setting is thus derived without even requiring professional speaker setting knowledge. Besides this, 5 pre-set EQ modes comprising of Jazz, Rock, Pop, Classic and Live music are ready made and available for users at a touch. Another useful feature – Midnight Mode, allows the conversation vocals of movies to be clearly heard while reducing the background sound effects so as not to bother others who sleeping at night.

The A33 also supports HDMI output – providing high resolution 720p/1080i image displays and audio presentation. In regards to TV management, the A33 comes with an EPG (electronic program guide) and two channel TV tuner cards. All the functions mentioned above are easily accessible with the 3-in-1 IR remote control. With a track ball design, it provides an easy browsing experience and swift shifting between the amplifier, computer and media center functions.

Think with all those specs, the price wouldn't be cheap but it look really nice if you have a 42" LCD TV beside it..

I hope they price this cheaper than the Shuttle. Acer is the cheapest at the moment at RM2,000 but it only has 1 tuner card and no display. If ASUS can bring this in at RM2,500, my credit card is ready!!! thumbsup
