Reports has been floating about the internet and around the media world in regards to speculation where Apple will manufacture sell mobile phones. Forbes has reported that this is true and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd (also known as Foxconn) has won the contract to manufacture Apple's iPhone. Stories has been going around stating that the number would be around 12 million units.
The iPhone is expected to be launched sometime in the 1st half of 2007 but my estimates that it should be right during summer. Currently the iPod can play video, audio and games so with a rough estimate, we can expect the iPhone to have similar functions.
With the current mobile market being hit with smartphones, how will Apple fair against the real bigwigs. Having a vast experience in terms of trendy consumer products which can attract the mass market, how will this advantage be applied to their mobile unit?
With tonnes of mobile phones already existing in the market, Apple will be up against the bigwigs with the likes of Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung. O2, Treo, Eten and Dopod are strong in terms of PDA Smartphones and Apple has only their unique looks and combination of their iconic iPod to boost their brand.
Other emerging brands are also filling in the market, BenQ (with their acquisition of Siemen's mobile unit), LG, and other existing brands such as Phillips, NEC, Sagem, Alcatel, Panasonic, Asus and many more, it will be a wonder how the iPhone will fair against these big players. Can it make a huge impact as the iPod or will it be just another wannabe? Only time will tell.
