Comment: Haven't tried P1 services yet, but looking at the packages -- I think their just following the templates that has been in the market (i.e. Streamyx, iZZi, uMobile). Good thing they open up the package to 2.4 Mbps right from the start.
However, at RM200 ++ for it -- it's a bit of a let down for me. Still expensive for the average joe lah . Not to mention, the current deployment is more of a "fixed wireless" solution. Let's see when they will roll-out the mobile solution (i.e. usb-type)
Nothing new about the 12 @ 24 month contract term -- that's the only way for them to cover the "box modem" (i.e. CPE) cost. WiMax equipments / components are still expensive in the market. Not to mention P1 is the 1st to commercially roll-out WiMax.
About other countries having better services or prices than Malaysia, i.e. Taiwan, Brunei or Singapore -- come on lah, no need to compare with them. Those countries are small in geographical terms -- easy to plan the broadband deployment. For us here in Malaysia, Streamyx is the only reliable option for most of us (don't talk about Klang Valley -- people there have more choice to choose from).
If we touch on Wireless or Wired connection -- you really can't pick one. The future I see, I would like to have both -- wireless & wired working together for the consumer. Forget about Streamyx from TM -- what I am waiting from them is their FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) Wireless!? A big question mark lah. I've tried iZZi & Maxis 3G .. ok lah for normal surfing & e-mail, but when it comes to the content that I like -- Streamyx is my only choice.. for now.
I did get a chance to test another wireless technology -- it was fantastic but since it won't be available in Malaysia anytime soon, so I'll just keep it a secret for now.
Ultimately, I do hope the broadband market landscape will develop more with new products & technologies. But in the meantime, I'll just have to stick with Streamyx, or maybe P1 W1MAX
