GraphicBooster Pushes 13-incher Through The Crysis Test |

If you thought that all gaming notebooks were created equal (big, heavy, clumsy), then think again. Fujitsu Siemens have broken all the stereotypes usually attached to gaming notebooks with AMILO Sa 3650. Measuring no larger than a run-of-the-mill 13-inch ultraportable - a size that is unheard of in the gaming notebook realm - the AMILO Sa 3650 comes fully equipped with your choice of Turion X2 or Athlon X2 processors, an ATI Radeon
HD 3200 graphics card, up to 4GB of RAM, and either a 250GB
or a 320GB hard drive.
Sure, it doesn't sound like a gaming spec notebook just yet, but throw a AMILO GraphicBooster into the mix and you're looking at up to a 470% increase in graphics performance. Based around an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 graphics card, the AMILO duo were put through their paces during a Fujitsu Siemens event and apparently, aced the Crysis test.
No official word on pricing, but due to the fact that it is a Fujitsu, chances are that this badboy will linger around the RM10,000 mark.

The first is an interesting entry from watchmakers, Nixon. The 2008 Winter Collection is set to launch globally this month and will feature three styles which are the The Master Blaster (an over-ear studio quality headphone), The Nomadic (an on-ear travel headphone) and The Wire (an in-ear headphone).

The Day Somone Almost Broke The Internet |
|
by Wern Shen

|
The immensely sarcastic catch phrase, "breaking the Internet", has been one of the most commonly used ones among the Internet community since the beginning of time. But have you ever stopped to wonder how that phrase came along, and just how much truth there is behind it?
Well, apparently one guy did and his name is Dan Kaminsky. In an recent article on Wired, editor Joshua Davis, documents how Kaminsky found one of the biggest security flaws in the history of the Internet, and how he fixed it.
"The vulnerability gave him the power to transfer millions out of bank
accounts worldwide. He lived in a barren one-bedroom apartment and
owned almost nothing. He rented the bed he was lying on as well as the
couch and table in the living room. The walls were bare. His
refrigerator generally contained little more than a few forgotten
slices of processed cheese and a couple of Rockstar energy drinks.
Maybe it was time to upgrade his lifestyle.
Or, for the sheer geeky joy of it, he could reroute all of .com into
his laptop, the digital equivalent of channeling the Mississippi into a
bathtub.
"Oh shit," he mumbled. "I just broke the Internet.""
It's a refreshing read and will definitely appeal to you even if you don't know a single thing about DNS.

Sony Vaio CS Series Launch With A Big Splash |
|
by Wern Shen

|
When you buy a product from Sony, you already know before hand that you're assured of one thing, and that's style. So it only seems natural that the recent launch of Sony's latest range of Vaio notebooks - the CS Series - came with an equally stylish launch.
Held at Sunway Lagoon, the launch was a whole day affair that was opened exclusively to members of the media and selected members of the public who registered for the guest list online. Activities throughout the day included a treasure hunt and a beauty pageant of sorts.
However, it was definitely the launch of the Vaio CS itself that stole the limelight - as you can probably tell from the pictures.
Speaking of the Vaio CS, here's an except from the press release:
"...VGN-CS16 and 15 come with Intel Centrino 2 processor technology while VGN-CS16 is also equipped with NVIDIA GeForce graphics. A 14.1-inch Clear Bright LCD Lite display keeps the notebook compact without cramping the workspace. Wireless LAN and Bluetooth increase mobility while a DVD drive provides read and write capability. All models in the series are pre-installed with Windows Vista."
The VAIO CS series is now available at Sony Designated Stores nationwide from RM3,288 to RM3,988. For more information about the Sony Vaio CS series, visit the Sony website at www.sony.com.my.

Adobe Dabbles In Interactive Video Object Manipulation, Nothing Official |

Ever since I started working on Lowyat.TV, I've gone through a self-taught crash course in (ugh) Windows Movie Maker. Being one of the simplest and most straight forward pieces of video editing software available out there (don't bombard me for saying that Mac boys), it's unfortunately also very sorely lacking in features.
Right now, I'd pay anything (well, almost) to get my hands on this piece of software that's made by Dan Goldman. It isn't an official announcment from Adobe, and it " may or may not" make it into future versions of their video editing software, but it's so kick ass that it doesn't even matter.

NASA Shares Development Videos Via iTunes |
|
by Wern Shen

|
Don't take the image above too seriously, because we have absolutely no evidence that NASA uses iTunes to sync rocket's coordinates. However, we do know for a fact that NASA is now using Apple's digital media playing application to share in-house development progress videos with the masses.
Called the Ares Project, NASA delivers quarterly reports that offer viewers a rare glimpse at the on-going development work of their current projects. Inside these videos, you'll get an up-close look at the Ares rockets and learn more about key
engine, hardware and system milestones as the rockets proceed through
the design, review and development processes that will take them - and
their future crews - to launch.
"The video progress reports, which have been produced quarterly beginning in August 2006,
have been used to visually share progress with the NASA team at all
levels and to record the historical work being completed on America's
newest fleet of spacecraft for future generations. Now, in an effort to
share the Ares development with a broader audience, NASA is posting the
full library of reports on iTunes. The programs range in length from
5-15 minutes."
To view the Ares quarterly progress reports on iTunes, visit itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=296275310, and to learn more about the Ares rockets and view the Ares quarterly progress reports on NASA's Ares web site, visit www.nasa.gov/ares.

Samsung Announce New Touchscreens In Korea |
|
by Wern Shen
|
|
Friday, 28 November 2008 05:39 PM |
|
Samsung recently unveiled five new touchscreen LCD panels in Korea, all of which are intended for business use. Branded under the TS series (there's no prize for deciphering what that acronym means), these screens are available in sizes from 32-inches to 82-inches
While the use of LCD panels as information screens isn't exactly new - places like Sunway Pyramid are already filled with them - the addition of touchscreen functionality adds a whole new dimension to the way they can be used.
All of these new panels also come with MagicInfo Technology, which supposedly allows for several screens to be managed at once on the same panel.
No word of when they'll drop locally, but we doubt that you'll want to get one for yourself anyway.
