Confidentiality assured with Kingston's FIPS certified BlackBox |

Kingston Technology Company Inc. today announced the release of its first
Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS)*-validated USB Flash
drive, the DataTraveler BlackBox, available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities. Gaining
FIPS 140-2 certification requires a validation process that meets federal
requirements set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST)**, and the Communications Security Establishment of the Government
of Canada. This is critical because many governmental agencies in the
United States and Canada mandate that sensitive "data at rest" (i.e.,
all information not in the network) must be encrypted with the FIPS
140-2 standard.
"We
are very excited that our DataTraveler BlackBox met all federal requirements
established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST),"
said Nathan Su, Flash Memory Product Manager, APAC Region, Kingston.
"This certification,
along with other enhanced security features, makes the DT BlackBox an
ideal way to store and transport confidential documents with the utmost
confidence that the data is secure."
The
FIPS Level 2 standard requires the DT BlackBox to run a power-on self
test which verifies that the encryption architecture is functioning
each time it is plugged into a USB port. Beyond the NIST certification,
the DataTraveler BlackBox features 256-bit hardware-based AES encryption
via a dedicated processor which automatically encrypts and decrypts
data on the fly. The drive automatically locks down after ten consecutive
failed password attempts, thus helping to prevent unauthorized access
if the drive is lost, stolen or misplaced.
Local pricing details not available.

BenQ has
been surprising me with some of their monitors lately. You'd be expecting names
like Dell, Samsung and Phillips to be making waves when it comes to PC monitors
but well after going through the BenQ FP241WZ 24", I think BenQ has a pretty
good chance of making it big in this segment of the computer peripherals
market. 24" for a monitor can be considered huge, which was the first thing
that sprung to my mind when I first received the BenQ FP241WZ. That wasn't the
only thing that caught my attention though. When I read through its
specifications another feature did, HDTV support with its HDTV port. It seems
BenQ isn't skimping when it comes to offerings on its monitors. And at around
RM2700+, I was thinking that the BenQ FP241WZ was really offering good value.

The good news of the week is that common sense has prevailed, and the Avril Lavigne concert will go on as scheduled on the 29th of August - as an actual concert with jumping and screaming we hope! So says Avril Lavigne and so say the organizers. The Ministry that a few days ago ordered the concert to be postponed has yet to issue an official statement.
We'll reserve counting our chickens to when they hatch.
Malaysian authorities have reversed their decision to cancel a concert
by Canadian pop-rock star Avril Lavigne, saying Saturday that she can
perform next week despite complaints her act is "too sexy."
The ministry's secretary-general, Muzahet Masruri, said Saturday that
authorities decided after talks with the concert organizers that
Lavigne " can do the show" next week, even though the government would
still have preferred a different date.

Kamarulzaman Mohamed, a party youth official, told The Associated Press
on Monday that Lavigne's show was "considered too sexy for us" and
would promote the wrong values just before independence day.
Malaysia requires all performers to wear clothes without obscene or
drug-related images and be covered from the chest to the knees. They
must also refrain from jumping, shouting, hugging and kissing on stage.

UPDATED : We've been told the concert is now back on. Avril Lavigne says is back on, the organizers says its back on. No word from the people who called it off in the first place just yet. Has Merdeka been moved to a different date instead?
