AMD has launch PUMA, its latest mobile platform. Embedding its latest chipset and ATI graphics together with 802.11n WLAN, AMD is taking the fight right up to Intel's new Centrino 2.
At the heart of PUMA, lies the AMD 780G
chipset which can deliver DirectX 10 graphics acceleration, full high definition
H.264 decoding with both HDMI and Display Port outputs and 5GHz PCI
Express ports. This combined with the new AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile CPU and the ATI Radeon HD 3000 Series embedded graphics, givs it a huge leap in 3D performance and HD playback image quality. Combined with a discreet ATI graphics, not only can it support up to 4 monitors, users will also benefit from ATI CrossFireX Technology which according to AMD boast 3D graphic performance up to 70%.
AMD is also claiming 70% increase in battery life with AMD Enhanced PowerNow! and ATI PowerXpress techology which shuts off core logic parts of the CPU when not in use and automatically switches from discreet graphics to integrated graphics when on battery power.
Notebooks utilizing AMD's PUMA are now available from OEM manufactures such as HP, Compaq and Acer.

It was touted to be a day full of thrills, spills and explosive (no pun intended) action, but in reality, the 2nd edition of the Advanced Overclocking Championship was nothing more than a drab affair that only managed to pull in a crowd that mainly consisted of retirees and high school truants.
Team China trampled over the competition by outscoring all other contestants in benchmarking tests like Super Pi and 3D Mark, while Team Malaysia will be going home without a single point. It's unfortunate for the Malaysian duo, but there have been calls throughout the AOCC camp that attribute Team China's success to their superior chip, rather than their overclocking skills.
In a couple of hours, we'll be witnessing an attempt to break the world record for overclocking in a collaborative effort among the teams as well as the prize giving ceremony, so as usual, stay tuned.
On a side note, the event as a whole left a sour taste in the mouth of the global media contingent. Widely ignored by the organizers, we were ferried to the venue and left to fend for ourselves in the foreign city of Hong Kong. Deprived of basic necessities like food, seats in the venue and information from the media chaperons (who for most of the afternoon went missing), members of the media contingent were spotted leaving the event venue even before the event came to an end.
More event pictures after the jump.

This news isn't official yet, but our forumers have been confirming that DiGi is now offering 365 days validity for their prepaid service. This is inline with the recently announced MCMC directive compiling all mobile cellular service providers to introduce prepaid packages with longer validity periods of at least 180 days. All you have to do is top up RM100 into your account, and the account will remain active for the next one year!
This latest offering from DiGi is another shot in the face to rivals Hotlink, who last week introduced their own offering which requires an upfront payment of RM33, and a minimum top up of RM30 for the first six months in order to enjoy the 1 year validity period.
Celcom are yet to announce any new offerings top comply with the MCMC directive as yet.

Sony today unveiled its next-generation internet ready BDP-S350 Blu-ray
Disc player. The BDP-S350 supports BonusView (picture-in-picture), which is featured on select new Blu-ray
Disc home video releases, and is also BD-Live ready, with an Ethernet
port for easy firmware updates and access to Internet-based interactive
content features. A firmware update enabling BD-Live is planned later
this year.
It
also features quick start up mode improving the player's boot up time
to approximately a few seconds and offers an external port for local
storage for BD-Live, allowing users to add an optional flash storage
device (sold separately).
"We
leveraged our expertise in film production and digital technology to
build a machine that movie fans would truly love," said Chris Fawcett,
vice president of marketing for Sony Electronics' Home Products
Division. "An advanced Blu-ray
Disc player like the BDP-S350 is a must for every HDTV owner because it
delivers the ultimate video and sound quality, while unlocking features
you can't find on DVD, downloads or video on demand."
Since
many consumers own extensive DVD movie libraries, the BDP-S350
incorporates Sony's new Precision Cinema HD Upscale technology that
converts standard-definition signals (480i) to 1080p and outputs a full
HD equivalent resolution signal to 1080p TVs via HDMI.
Additionally, the model also adds Sony's new Precision Drive HD, which
helps to detect and correct wobbling discs from three directions,
stabilizing playback of bent or scratched Blu-ray Discs and DVDs.
