HP Launches Experience Stores
by Wern Shen
Monday, 13 October 2008 03:56 PM

Last week, we braved the post-Raya Kuala Lumpur traffic to attend the kick-off ceremony for HP’s latest initiative customer oriented initiative - the launching of the HP Experience Stores.

Held in Westin Hotel, the launch was a result of a study conducted by HP which showed that customers responded better to their products when given the chance to see, feel and touch them for themselves. With the launching of these Experience stores, HP hopes to one-up the feedback, by letting potential customers actually play around with working units of their products.

Sony debuts world's first Digital Noise Cancelling Headphones
by Terence
Thursday, 09 October 2008 02:09 PM

Sony Malaysia on Tuesday debuted the world's first Digital Noise Cancelling Headphones, the MDR-NC500D. Utilizing the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology transfer from Japan, this Made In Malaysia product boast 99% ambient noise reduction while at the same time providing high quality audio for the users.

The in-built Digital Noise Cancelling (DNC) software engine uses a digitial filter to actively remove ambient noise. Basically it scans the user's ambient surroundings noise and counters it with an inverted signal which effectively reduces almost all ambient noise.

In addition to the 'AI Mode' which automatically optimize the noise canceling effect, there are 3 present modes for airline travelers, train commuters and office environment. The MDR-NC500D also features a monitor switch that allows users to temporarily hear the surrounding sounds without removing their headphones, useful for a quick chat with a friend.

The MDR-NC500D has built-in Lithium-ion battery can last up to 15 hours of continuous usage and it also has the option to use AAA batteries. It is also very light at just 195 grams.

Audiophiles are able to get their hands on the MDR-NC500D now at any Sony retail store at a a suggested price of RM1,499.

HTC Launches Two New (Non-Android) Products
by Wern Shen
Wednesday, 08 October 2008 02:06 PM

Yesterday, we were on hand to witness the launch of two new HTC products into the Malaysian market. Whilst neither of them will run Android, and will instead be running Windows Mobile 6.0 under HTC's proprietary Touch Flo interface, talk of the Android powered HTC device simply couldn't escape anyone's tongues - including that of SIS (HTC's sole Malaysian distributor) frontman, Mr. Frank Teh, who hinted that we could be seeing one on our shores in the near future.

Full details on the two new products after the jump.

Hands On With The New(ish) T-Mobile G1

There's no better way to get to know a new product than to mash around with it yourself. But since we're probably never going to get our grubby paws on an Android anytime soon, we've have had to settle on the next best thing. An online based emulation. Well, a 360-degree view of the G1, a guided tour through a few of it's functions and an almost fully-functional emulation to be exact.

Nokia 5800 Xpress Music Launch
by Wern Shen
Friday, 03 October 2008 02:57 PM

As earlier confirmed, Nokia launched the highly anticipated Nokia 5800 Xpress Music phone this morning. As the first S60 Touch device to emerge from the Finnish camp, expectations for this badboy were set pretty high - especially so after leaked videos of a working unit made their way online not too long ago.

Set in the lavish surroundings of Singapore's Supper Club, we managed to get up close and personal with the Tube, and we're glad to say that it didn't dissapoint. Unfortunately, we weren't able to liveblog the event, but we promise you more pictures and videos when we get back.

Apart from the launching of the 5800, Nokia also confirmed that their new music service called "Comes With Music" would also go live in selected countries - unfortunately, Singapore edged it's way past Malaysia to be the only South East Asian country to receive these services for now.

In the mean time, here's a link to the official press release.

The Nokia 5800 "Tube" Xpress Music Goes Official
by Wern Shen
Friday, 03 October 2008 03:23 AM

After an insane amount of cloak and daggery, Nokia has come clean and announced that the rumored Nokia 5800 Xpress Music phone a.k.a. "The Tube" a.k.a. Nokia's first S60 Touch phone will be launched in just a couple of hours (circa 10AM). We're here in Singapore to cover the launch (which happens to run in conjunction with the launch in London), and if the venue permits, we'll be live blogging throughout the event. However, if it doesn't, you know that you can count on us for at least a hands-on video and a video interview. Stay tuned!

Samsung SSD Withstands Drop Test
by Wern Shen
Tuesday, 30 September 2008 02:03 PM

SSD or Solid State Drives have been touted to replace traditional hard disk drives in the near future due to the fact that they contain no moving parts (won't break down so easily?), they consume less electricity (longer battery life?) and they produce way less heat (cooler notebook?) regular hard disk drives.

Having said that, we can't help but to wonder just how durable these things really are. Unfortunately, we don't have a spare SSD (or any SSDs for that matter) lying around the office, but we're pretty sure that the Marketing team of the Samsung SSD division do. Oh wait, did we just find a virial video of them throwing an actual working unit off their roof, picking it up and booting it up on a waiting notebook? Oh, indeed.
