LG KG810

A few months back we reviewed the LG KG800 Chocolate and we noted the simple yet elegant design of the phone. LG now complements the sleek slider with an equally sleek folder - the KG810. If you liked the KG800 but prefer a foldable (and smaller) phone, look no further - the KG810 is everything its slider cousin is, and perhaps more. The packaging itself speaks a lot about what this phone is meant to be - luxurious and exotic. What you'll find in the box:

  • The phone & battery
  • Battery charger
  • USB cable
  • Headset & controller
  • Manual & driver/software mini-CD
  • Carry string

Build, Design and Display

The KG810 is sexy, that's the obvious. Measuring 92mm x 47mm x 14.9mm, and weighing a mere 83g, it's the ideal handset to be tucked away in a pair of jeans. The black reflective finish is identical to that of the KG800's, and while it feels and looks solid, the surface is a magnet for fingerprints and smudges. Personally, I'd prefer a grooved anti-slip surface on my phones, but it's a case of preference. The good thing about the surface though, is that it's made of glass fibre, giving it minimal resistance to light scratches. A few days of carrying it around and the surface still looks brand new - that is if you consistently wipe the fingerprints off (which I couldn't help doing because they were painfully obvious). However, don't expect it to stand up against excessive friction with coins and keys in your pocket - scratches will still appear.

The phone has a cold metallic feel to it. The folding joint is tight and sturdy, and the phone snaps open and shut without a single creak. The keypad is firm and clicks very softly, and the keys alternate between glossy and flat textured surfaces to form a chequered pattern that is mild and not too obvious. Classy.

The KG810's internal screen is identical to that of the KG800 - 176x220 resolution, 262k color, and in every way exudes the same merits as its predecessor. The display is bright, crisp and large enough to make usage pleasing to the eyes as much as the phone's design does. The external screen is 96x96 resolution with 65k color, and is hidden underneath the surface, making the outer shell seamless and smooth.
