Performance

Now as far as monitors go, the VX2835WM performance impressed me. As a monitor for work, the VX2835WM was a great boon, allowing me to open multiple windows and work on more than one document at a time. And given the size, I was able to open at least three word document at full page view without much problem. So for those of you who like to do dual web page browsing, you'll find the VX2835WM a great monitor to use.

Movie watching on the VX2835WM was also great, in fact amazingly good as the movie we played came out sharp with great colour and contrast. Skin tones and colour consistency were there and let me tell you that watching movies in a darkened room with this monitor is a blast. The VX2935WM works best when you're watching a full HD clip as well as my test showed beautiful clarity when I ran a 1080p clip on it.

Of course what good is a monitor if it can't play games, and I'm happy to say that even in this department, the VX2835WM does pretty well. With a response time of about 5ms, this was pretty sufficient for fast action games like F.E.A.R and Call of Duty. And when you add that with the 1920 x 1200 resolution, playing on a 19" or even 20" widescreen will never have that "oomph" again.

Now soundwise however was a slightly different matter. The built in speakers although not bad, wasn't exactly great either. They are much better than most monitors with built in speakers though and I didn't actually mind using it when watching movies on my DVD player. However this came w I wouldn't recommend you using the VX2835WM speakers as a substitute for normal speakers though as sound quality I still get better sound quality from some stereo speakers. Besides with a monitor this big, it'll be much better if you have a full 5.1 or 7.1 channel kit for maximum movie watching and game playing effect.

However if you're still stubborn well you'll find some problems. As the VX2835WM comes with a variety of inputs, it associates sound with which video source you've selected. This is usually good when it comes to monitors with multiple inputs but the problem lies mostly with the 3.5mm jack of the VX2835WM. The 3.5mm jack associates itself with the D-Sub so you'll only be getting sound from the PC only if you're hooked up to the D-Sub. Considering that most would use the DVI connector on the graphics card, you're most likely to connect the PC to the monitor through the HDMI port of the VX2835WM. As such the monitor would only transfer sound from the HDMI connection making the 3.5mm jack useless in this situation. So if you do consider the VX2835WM, take my advice and get a better set of speakers to complement it.

Conclusion

Overall, the VX2835WM is a great monitor. It excels in work, move watching and game playing and even still photos look good on it. Sound quality aside, the performance of the VX2835WM was impressive and this giant of a monitor would certainly complement those PCs that function for both work and play (especially movie watching) like that of my PC. As an added bonus, you don't even need to buy a DVI to HDMI cable as ViewSonic already provides one. And wait till you see the price of this. At around RM2,999 it's a pretty good steal. So if 24" widescreen are not big enough for you, well here's a monitor that ought to satisfy your need for big screens.

lex - what would you like a viewing angle of 190 degrees? Then you can stand behind the monitor and still see it.

Contrast ration 10:1 WOW! I gotta get me one. Try 800:1 typ. Clearly you are a self appointed expert.

erm... for the price you could get THREE 22" LCD panels side by side... ok, you'll need two graphics cards or something... but three 22" panels in an extended desktop has gotta hv more space.

Lookin' from these specifications........

Viewing Angle 160° horizontal, 160° vertical @ contrast ratio > 10:1
Response Time 3ms gray-to-gray (avg); 5ms black-white-black (typ)

This must be a cheapo TN (twisted nematic) panel, I reckon (which accounts for that price). Nice price too but at 160 degress, viewing angles are a bit limited especially for a LCD panel of that size... Talkin' from experience... I have a 22" BenQ, also TN panel type, with a better 170 degrees viewing angle but even then the viewing angles aren't so good unless you are lookin' at it from a distance and straight (ie. at other angles. colors and brightness changes, worst angle is from bottom where the whole screen looks dark). clown

For comparison, all the 24" currently are NOT using TN panels (BenQ, Acer, Dell, etc). These are either the more expensive PVA/MVA or IPS type. If you find one, just check their viewing angles. You'll be surprised. bigsmile-smiley

However not all is lost, this monitor should be great for games! The response time typically means this monitor has lag compensation (a feature that most expensive gaming LCD monitors have).
