Dell Inspiron 1720 Review

When it comes to desktop replacement notebooks, the one thing you noticed about them is that they are(well mostly) huge. The Dell Inspiron 1720 is no exception to the rule either measuring in at about 15.5" x 11.5" x 1.7" (inches) and weighing in at a good whopping 3.86kgs. At this size and weight you know that it isn’t really for lugging around more it is for staying put at your home, on your desk. Then again most of us get desktop replacement so we have the option of not lugging around a big ass computer case when mobility is called for.

Read on for the rest of the review.

Now typical to Dell, the Inspiron 1720 comes in a range of configurations starting from a price range of RM3,699 for the basic specs. Our review unit however came with the following specs;

• Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

• Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.0GHz, 2MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB)

• Mobile Intel P965 Express Chipset • Intel Wireless 3945 (802.11a/g)

• 2GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM (maximum capacity 4GB)

• 120GB Total Space

• 8x DVD (+/-R double layer) drive

• 17.0" diagonal widescreen TrueLife TFT LCD display at 1440x900 (WXGA)

• 256MB nVidia GeForce Go 8600M GT

• 2.0 megapixel webcam

• Bluetooth version 2.0 plus Enhanced Data Rate (EDR)

• ExpressCard slot (ExpressCard/34 and Express Card/54)

• 5-in-1 media card reader

• VGA out • Mic/Headphone connectors

• IEEE-1394 (FireWire) • Five USB 2.0 ports

This bumped up the price to around RM4,300 though the price may vary a bit due to Dell’s frequent offers. (Much better if you head to Dell's site for a breakdown on the prices).
