While netbooks and small notebooks may be great in terms of mobility, a small display is always a great turnoff, especially when you want to play a simple game but end up scrolling around the display half the time. The Acer Aspire 4810TZ comes with a 14” display, the most ideal size for just about anything.
If you’ve read our review on the Aspire 3810T, well, the gist of it is pretty much the same, the only major difference is that this 4810TZ comes with a 14” display and something that has been missing on all netbooks/thin notebooks - an optical drive! Although 14” may seem rather big if compared to a netbook, its slim dimension plus a weight of a mere 1.9kg makes it just right to carry around when you need something that can perform MUCH better than netbooks.

The eject button for the DVD drive on the Timeline 4810TZ is uniquely located not on the drive itself, but on the inside the notebook. It does take quite some time to hunt for that little button because we’re so used to the conventional ones - no harm done though, it’s healthy to be creative once in a while.
Surprisingly though, this time round the battery was able to last me up to 7 hours, I was exhausted from waiting for it to run out before I can pack my bags and go home. Even after being used for several consecutive hours, the base and hand rest area didn’t burn like they normally would. Although it comes with only 2GB of RAM, when it comes to performance, the 4810TZ does CULV processors justice, allowing me to open several resource consuming applications at a time without lagging. I didn’t try hardcore games though, I doubt CULV processors are up for that, but it is a good notebook to carry around and enjoy movies on its 16:9 HD display while having other applications running in the background. Unfortunately though, being too reflective, the display does get rather hard read especially if the window’s facing your back and glaring onto the monitor.
The Aspire 4810TZ is definitely high on my list of possible notebooks to get for normal use and even for traveling. For RM2,399, it comes with an acceptable processor, clear HD display, lightweight, 320GB of HDD space, and best of all, an optical drive that clearly is hard to do without - how else are we suppose to install new software, burn pictures for friends or watch that brand new DVD we just bought?
