Unveiled alongside the new Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is the Xperia M4 Aqua, an upper mid-range smartphone that looks remarkably similar to the Xperia Z3, the company’s current flagship. The M4 Aqua may not be the successor to the Xperia Z3, but it does carry some of the Z3’s traits.
Sony is looking to restructure itself as the company looks to increasing operating profit by 25 times by 2018, and the biggest sacrifice appears to be the underperforming smartphone division. This follows multiple rounds of downsizing, spinning off the television division into a wholly owned subsidiary, and selling the Vaio laptop brand.
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it will be partnering with Spotify to bring PlayStation Music to users. This means that the current Music Unlimited service will go away, but the prospect of having Spotify on the PlayStation 4 is an exciting one.
Sony is reducing the size of its smartphone division yet again. Some 1,000 jobs are set to be cut, most of which will be from Europe and China. There is no explanation on why this is happening, although it probably has something to do with the lackluster mobile sales.
Sony will not be unveiling its next flagship at the upcoming MWC 2015 that is happening in March. At least, that’s what the latest rumour is suggesting. If this does prove to be true, what will Sony be showcasing at the hugely anticipated event?
