Huawei Ascend P6

Claimed to be the world’s slimmest smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P6 was launched with much fanfare in London last month which pretty much showed how much that the China-based telecommunications giant are riding on it. While it is not yet available in Malaysia just yet, we managed to have a short hands-on experience with the new Android smartphone at our recent but really brief visit to Mobile Asia Expo 2013 in Shanghai.

Apart from being extremely thin at 6.18 mm, we are able to immediately feel how light the device is (120g according to the official spec sheet) right after we hold it. Unlike the 6.45mm-thin Alcatel One Touch Ultra which was previously touted at the world’s slimmest, Huawei somehow still managed to include a 3.5mm audio jack into the Ascend P6.

Powered by the Huawei’s own K3V2 chipset which packs a 1.5Ghz quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU and Vivante GC4000 GPU, the device also features a 4.7-inch 1280×720 in-cell display and running on Android 4.2 right out of the box together with Huawei’s own Emotion UI on top of it. There is also a non-removable 2000mAh battery within the Ascend P6’s unibody chassis.

In terms of memory, the Ascend P6 contains 2GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage as well as the support for microSD card with storage of up to 32GB. Additionally, it also features an 8-megapixels f/2.0 rear camera and a 5-megapixels front-facing camera.

While the Huawei Ascend P6 is not yet available in Malaysia which means we are not able to provide its pricing but a quick check at SIRIM’s database has indicated that the device might be released in our market very soon. More details in the subsequent article, so stay tuned.
