While many would generally associate Intel’s name with PC, the mobile segment is not foreign to the company. Over at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the company has launched yet another batch of Intel Atom system-on-chip (SoC) processors – previously codenamed as Clover Trail+ – that are designed for Android smartphones and tablets.
In general, the Clover Trail+ Atom chipsets are still quite similar to the original Clover Trail (officially named as the Intel Atom Z2760) as they still come with a dual-core x86 CPU together with Intel HyperThreading technology. However, the Clover Trail+ Atom SoCs are equipped with a dual-core GPU in the form of PowerVR SGX 544M2 GPU.
With the support for dual-channel 32-bit LPDDR2 memory interface and up to 2GB of total memory capacity, the Clover Trail+ Atom SoCs also comes with integrated image signal processor that supports main camera with resolution of up to 16-megapixels and additional secondary camera of up to 2-megapixels.

The Clover Trail+ Atom SoCs are available in three different flavors according to CPU clock speed: Z2580 (2.0GHz), Z2560 (1.6GHz) and Z2520 (1.2GHz). The GPU for each of the SoCs also run at different speeds which are listed as 533MHz, 400MHz and 300MHz respectively.
Several partners such as Asus, Lenovo and ZTE are already on-board to support the new Clover Trail+ platform, so expect to see new devices powered by these new Intel Atom SoCs (one such example is the Lenovo IdeaPhone K900) on the market soon enough. Check out the platform’s full specifications through the Read More link below.
